Zopiclone (Leaflet)

Description

Zopiclone is used in the treatment of primary sleep disorders, which are caused by difficulties falling asleep, nighttime and early awakenings. It is also used for the treatment of carryover situational and chronic forms of insomnia.

In addition, Zopiclone is used in the treatment of secondary sleep disorders caused by mental disorders.

Drug contraindications

Zopiclone is not recommended for patients who suffer from:

  • respiratory failure;
  • intolerance to Zopiclone or auxiliary components of the drug;
  • the sleep apnea syndrome;
  • acute or chronic liver failure;
  • myasthenia;
  • allergic to products containing wheat.

Reception of drug in the period of pregnancy and breastfeeding

During the study of Zopiclone there were not revealed teratogenic effects. However, the acceptance of Zopiclone at high doses during pregnancy in the second and third trimester can reduce motor activity and have a negative impact on the heart rate of the fetus.

If it impossible to do without the prescription at the stage of lactation, the patient is informed that she should give up breastfeeding.

Method of application and doses

Zopiclone is intended for oral reception. The choice of length of treatment and dosage of the drug is carried out taking into account the severity of the disease and response of the patient’s body to the reception of the drug. If a doctor has not appointed an individual treatment regimen, a patient takes the drug orally at a dosage of 7.5 mg before sleep. During the treatment of severe insomnia the dose can be increased to 15 mg. During the treatment of elderly patients or patients with impaired liver function, the drug is prescribed at a dosage of 3.75 mg.

Overdose

When taking high doses of Zopiclone, a patient may experience depression of central nervous system drowsiness, confusion, ataxia, hypotension, respiratory depression and coma.

In that case, if a patient has taken the drug in high doses, he should immediately vomit, perform gastric lavage, take activated carbon and perform proper symptomatic treatment.

Side effects

Zopiclone may cause a bitter or metallic taste in the mouth, gastrointestinal disorders, psychiatric disorders, confusion, irritability and allergic reactions.

If in the process of treatment of a patient has any unusual symptoms, they should immediately consult a doctor.

Terms and conditions of storage

Zopiclone should be stored in a dry, dark place inaccessible to children. The duration of storage of the medicinal product since the date of manufacture is 2 years.
