Those who had to struggle with infectious diseases of the intestinal or respiratory tract, of course, heard about Zithromax drug. Specialists refer it to broad-spectrum antibiotics, it is a means to destroy gram-positive, gram-negative and anaerobic bacteria, chlamydia, mycobacterium, myco – and ureaplasma and other pathogenic microorganisms. However, this drug is not effective against organisms sensitive to erythromycin.
Once in the body, the active ingredient Zithromax inhibits Clostridium, Streptococcus, Bacteroides, gonococci, staphylococci, chlamydia, the causative agent of the Gardnerella, Haemophilus influenzae, Bacillus, the causative agent of legionellosis, pertussis, and paracoccus coli, Ureaplasma, Mycobacterium, Mycoplasma, Treponema, Helicobacter pylori and Moraxella catarrhalis. Meanwhile, the drug is inactive against bacteria that are resistant to erythromycin. Zithromax starts acting in the body very quickly, as the maximum concentration in blood is achieved in 60 minutes.
Indications for use
Zithromax is actively applied in the case of the following infectious diseases:
- infections of the upper or lower divisions of the respiratory and ENT-organs (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, atypical, or bacterial pneumonia, and other);
- infections of the genitourinary system (cervicitis, uncomplicated urethritis of gonorrheal origin, etc);
- infections of soft tissues or skin (dermatitis, impetigo, erysipelas, etc.);
- borellis, that is, Lyme disease (initial stage);
- lesions of the duodenum and stomach appeared as a result of activation of Helicobacter pylori;
- scarlet fever.
The dosage regimen
Zithromax capsules should be taken once a day, two hours after eating or one hour before a meal. If the upper respiratory tract is injured, it is necessary to take this antibiotic at a dosage of a capsule for three days. Soft tissue infections are treated by reception of two capsules of Zithromax on the first day, and in the next four days you need to take medicine at a dose of one capsule.
If it is necessary to fight with infections in the pelvis, Zithromax is administered intravenously at a dosage 0.5 g, and then you should move on taking two capsules of the drug a day throughout the week. In the case of child pneumonia, this medication is also administered intravenously at a dosage of 0.5 g on the first and second days, and then a child should take a capsule for 5 days.
Zithromax is not recommended to take in case of hepatic or renal failure, at the age of three years, during lactation or during gestation of the child. If a patient has a hypersensitivity to macrolides, particularly azithromycin, this drug is also contraindicated to him.
The remedy can cause certain side effects, particularly drowsiness, headache, abdominal pain, anxiety, nausea, diarrhea and changes in taste. In rare cases, Zithromax can cause allergic reactions: itching, urticaria and photosensitivity.
